They Decide

14 07 2008

Your brand is not what you think it is…it is what your customers say it is.  Companies will spend millions of dollars establishing a brand, but unless your customers perceive it the same way the brand will morph into the community brand that supports it.

I’ve been reading a great book “Groundswell”, and they make this statement about mid-way in the book.  I have to say that it not only applies to companies these days…it applies to technology and market places.  Take a look at what Pandora is doing to traditional radio.  What has iTunes and the other digital download sites have done to traditional retail.  What blogs are doing to traditional magazines.  What cell phones have done to traditional telephones (feels weird even typing that word).  Email has done to faxes…and the list goes on and on.

My point is, the people control these trends.  They control the market place.  They control, now more than ever, where companies move brands…products…technology.  For the first time in history, the people have a platform. They have social profiles, blogs, twitters, product reviews.

Traditional radio, magazines, retail, phones, will never be the same.  In another 10 years, we’ll need to do carbon dating to study these dinosaur formats that thrived up to the mid 90’s.  The consumers have spoken.  Is your company listening?

New Tech Tuesday — iPhone

Okay, can’t resist…it’s THE WEEK of the next gen domination in the Mobile world.  Ran across a sneak peek on Wired.com Check out the geotagging possibilities below

Social Networks Lookout, a evolution come-ith

Social Networks Lookout, an evolution is coming

Now when the camera asks you if it can use your current location…that’s a real Smart Phone! I love the opportunities that come with this platform pushing geo information to your social site of preference.  It makes for easy tagging, and brings the social experience into spaces where you won’t be with your laptop.  Look for this full functioning feature to integrate into your favorite social site flavor by Christmas….that’s my prediction.

New Tech Tuesday — Google Phone

1 07 2008

Okay, so I’m starting a new weekly blog post dedicated to new digital technologies.  With the new version of iPhone coming next Friday, i thought the new Google Phone (yet to be officially announced) would be a good debut topic.

In fact, it’s getting enough buzz that Wired has dedicated an article to it this month.  The best concept shot I could find was at www.google-phone.com…if it comes close to being this cool I think iPhone will have some healthy competition.

Now, I truly don’t think Google is even concerned about the hardware.  That has never been their game, or we would’ve seen a Google browser by now.  No, they are interested in the software / OS opportunity.  The more installs and users, the more Google advertising that can be monetized.  One thing is for sure, they will revolutionize Mobile OS just like they did the search engine world.  Knowing the innovation and superior creativity that comes out of Google, it’s bound to lead the pack in the Mobile world.

We are watching a new OS develop through devices that are much more portable and involved in our day to day lives.  Taking the temperature of the climate, I would bet on Apple and Google to be lead pioneers in this new frontier.
