iPhone App Store

21 08 2009

I just had the privilege of going to the “mother ship” in Cupertino for some iTunes meetings. We had lunch at Cafe Mac’s inside 1 Infinite Loop, check the tweet timeline for pics. We walked passed this display on the way in:

Yes, this is Mac power at it’s finest. 20 synchronized 30 inch Apple Cinema HD Displays. Quite the display with an interactive component that is a sign of how much this company has changed another technology game…called the smartphone. I knew iTunes is currently selling more apps than music, but had no idea they were downloading at 3,000 per/minute. What you are looking at is the most popular 20,000 apps with a real-time icon animation that illuminates and grows in size (like the mac dock when you do a roll-over of an icon) every time it’s downloaded.

Impressive, as you stand back it looks like water drops hitting this massive display. It’s the new OS…it’s the first computer screen for the masses…it’s the ultimate lifestyle device…and it’s the third time Apple has changed the game in a major way.

Guitar Prodigy

19 08 2009

Okay, when I was 11 I just graduated from playing a tennis racket to my first guitar, a JC Penny special. I was no where near with this 11 guitar prodigy Sungha Jungs is today. Check out this amazing video, over 2m others have already

He has a host of other videos on his YouTube channel This one above shows some of his finger-style picking chops to carry rhythm and melody at the same time. Sungha’s website is here, and his twitter is quite interesting look at the mind of an 11 year old with mad skills. I don’t think I practiced 3 hours of anything a day at his age, what discipline.

Okay, I’m going home now to practice and get my 5 year old some professional lessons. Look out for Sungha, only a matter of time before he has an album ready. Although he is in South Korea and 11 years old, it will be easy to distribute the album digitally…he already has a mass audience waiting. Check out this original composition

Loading

18 08 2009

This is a picture of my digital life lately…. “loading!”. As I sit and watch time wheel turn or the rainbow color wheel spin and spin and spin, I stare and read the word loading. Is it a productive use of time…ummm no.

If you’ve grown up with computers or any other digital devices since the 90’s you have experienced two things. First, the signal you’re going to be waiting. From the infamous dial-up screech to the iconic hour glass that just keeps turning…we’ve all wasted countless hours with them. Second the inevitable “reboot,” which is a whole other blog topic.

I wonder how many minutes I’ve depleted off my life clock waiting for something to load. While life is happening around me, I’m chained to an expectation for something to happen. What else am I sitting around waiting for? What else could I be doing
instead of waiting? Life happens now, not after a load time. Today I resist…today I will do life in real-time, even if I have to set the stupid iPhone down while it figures it out :-)

Destiny Found

18 08 2009

Yes I’m a LOST fanatic…addicted…or junkie some would say. I’ll be glued to the set come January. Funny thing, I don’t fly the same since becoming a fan of LOST. I’m always sizing up the passengers around me…are they the ones that I want to be on the “island” with?

What’s In A Name?

13 08 2009

What’s in a name? Here are some thoughts from the life of Jacob and Rachel. Are you a Ben-oni or Ben-jamin? From one perspective the name is “son of my pain” that’s the “oni.” And from another it’s “son of my right hand,” or “son of good fortune” the “jamin.”

I would parallel the naming conflict to the world vs. God perspective. For Rachel, the mother giving birth to Ben, it was the world’s perspective. She uttered “Benoni” on her dying breath while delivering him. Just like our world, that lives in constant fear, doom, and gloom. The world that sees the bad side of everything. Rachel was in the middle of the pain and couldn’t see any other perspective.

God, on the other hand, sees beyond to the real calling…the real name He has on our life. He sees Ben-jamin in the same situation. Totally different, world-opposing, perspective. Just as the story for Jacob unfolds, where The Father renames him Israel as a sign of who he really is and the calling on his life. Israel steps in and names Benoni to Benjamin…the true calling on his life.

What is your name today? What is the world calling you? There is a Father who has a true calling on your life, and has a name for that. Read Psalm 139: 13-18 again today and see the picture of this Father who wants to name you for who He has really made you to be.
